Had such a wonderful date yesterday that I had no energy for snowflaking after, so here's day 3 a day late! :)

Day 3
In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing?

My creative process is usually rather impulsive and focused. I tend to pick up ideas at random - from hearing a song, something I read, a prompt from someone else... well anything really, and once I get an idea I'll be quite focused on it until I actually finish creating something or until my sometimes fleeting creative spark gets distracted.

I'm very bad at planning out my creative process, especially for writing. I've always been boggled by how people have the focus to hash out their whole plot and backstory and everything before they write. I tend to just start writing and see where it takes me, sometimes I will manage to finish a story in a few hours or a day, sometimes the idea and characters will stay with me and pester me for days, weeks, months, years before I manage to write them down. I have a few ideas that have stuck with me for a long long time that I still haven't found quite the right characters for. Sometimes when I join new fandoms I'll find the characters one of those has been missing all along.

I wish I had some magic trick to break through the blocks though, beause I really don't. Usually I try to surround myself with other people's art - be it fandom stuff, music or tv shows/movies in the hope that something will spark me. Sometimes it really helps to get prompts from someone else, or take part in a challenge, or just force myself to sit down and write a snippet that may not ever be shared with anyone else. I have a lot of those snippets, I've shared some inspired by readong similar snippets from other people, finding it can be an interesting glimpse into people's processes.

For things other than fic I actually tend to have better focus. I don't get the same sense of there being characters that want their story written, which can be distracting - I actually wrote a fic about this years ago (which I hope no one uses to gauge my current writing ability from, tehe). Especially for things like fanmixes and fanvids I love to focus on finding the right music/clips and making all the pieces work together to form a coherent whole. Icon and graphics making also tends to be things I get really into at times and then I'll produce a bunch of stuff at once.

This might not have been particularly cohesive, since as I said, I'm bad at pre-planning my creative process. But it was a good exercise in just sitting down to write!
